History
The 397 Diesel-Type Coal Loader was introduced in 1948 and remained in the catalogue for ten years. It's full of action, noise and excitement and most people are amazed at one the first time they see it in operation.

As interesting as it is to watch, the 397 is not an efficient mover of coal. It will throw just as much coal onto your layout or train board as it does into a waiting freight car. Nevertheless, kids love to watch it as much as us adults!

Features
The 397 Coal Loader includes the following standard features: metal base, red plastic tray, rubber belt in center, black metal support structure and a see-through coal deflection shield at the top. On one side of the coal loader is a blue painted simulated generator which hides the accessories motor.

Additional Detail, Photos & Box Information
The only significant variation to the 397 is in its initial year of production. For 1948, the blue simulated motor housing was actually painted yellow. In addition, the accessory also included a # 70 year lamp mounted to the base and facing the accessory.

Yellow Generator, With Yard Lamp - A rare variation.
Blue Generator, Without Yard Lamp - Shown in the photo above - The most common version.
