History
The 2530 Railway Express Agency Baggage Car is part of Lionel’s Super Speedliner passenger car series. The Super Speedliner series, numbered 2530 thru 2534, was available for nine years (1952 – 1960) and is one of the more common sets of aluminum cars. As most collectors would agree, the extruded aluminum passenger car sets are the most realistic and desirable passenger cars produced by Lionel during the postwar era

Lionel’s 2530 Railway Express Agency Baggage Car did not make its debut with the original series in 1952. Instead, Lionel added this car to the set in 1954. As interesting variation exists surrounding the size of the side doors on the early 1954 production version. The first production run included slightly larger side doors compared to the remainder of the production run. These large door versions were probably produced for a month or two in early 1954 and are truly rare.

The 2530 was included in five sets between 1954 and 1958. As mentioned above, the large door version is a potentially candidate for sets 2222WS or 2234W – both being 1954 sets. It was never included in the 1955 thru 1958 sets.

Features
Standard features on the 2530 Railway Express Agency baggage car include: extruded aluminum body, two sliding doors on each side, die-cast passenger car trucks with a operating couplers. There was no interior illumination in this car.
