History
The 1876 Western & Atlantic Railroad Mail and Passenger car was Lionel's last new style of passenger car introducted in the postwar era. It's an accurate reproduction of a real life passenger car from the United States during the mid to late 1800s.

The 1876 is practically identical to the 1866 Western & Atlantic Mail and Passenger car. The only differences between the 1876 and 1866 is the 1876 has self-centering couplers and is illuminated while the 1866 does not have either of these features. Otherwise, they share the same features, body style and paint scheme.

The 1876 remained almost unchanged during the entire production run. The only modification it experienced is a change of color used in the mold for the shell. The first production run used yellow molded shells while the later production run used gray shells painted yellow.

Features
The 1876 has the following standard features: fixed die-cast couplers with self-centering springs, illuminated, two smokestacks on the roof, brakewheel at each end and arch-bar trucks.

Additional Detail, Photos & Box Information
The 1876 was always catalogued as a Super-O passenger car. Additionally, there is no difference in value for the following variations.

Yellow Molded Shell - Estimated to be the earlier production run.
Yellow Painted Shell - Shown in the photo above -Estimated to be from the later production runs.
