History
The 1862 steam engine was classified by Lionel as a General or Civil War style steam engine. The 1862 is model is an excellent model of a real-life American locomotive of the mid to late 1800s. Lionel classified the 1862 as an 027 gauge item and is similar to its O gauge counterpart, the 1872 -- except the 1872 has more features.

Features
The 1862 steam locomotive has the following features: 4-4-0 wheel arrangement, gray painted boiler with a red cab and gold lettering, two position E-unit, wire handrailings, weight (for added traction) plus a gold ornamental bell, black ornamental whistle and functional headlight.

The length of a 1862 steam engine and tender is approximately 16" long (cowcatcher to rear coupler).

No Known Variations - Shown in the photo above. - All 1862s are painted gray with a red cab and always included the 1862T tender.
