History
The 1053 Transformer is a medium-sized 60 watt transformer and can control a single set
of trains. It is designed to operate small to mid-size layouts -- certainly no larger
than on a 4' x 8' table.
As Lionel looked to reduce expenses in the late 1950s, this smaller transformer became the standard power supply in beginner sets -- replacing the 90 watt 1033 transformer from the early 1950s. Today, this transformer is frequently used to supply auxiliary power to accessories and switches or simply to operate a small set under the Christmas tree during the holiday season.
