History
Nicknamed The Missile Launcher Outfit by Lionel, set 2527 was available in 1959 and 1960. Components of this set reflect a time and period within American history when the public's concern focused on protecting the country. This preoccupation was reflected in many Lionel train sets. For set 2527, all five freight cars carried military-themed loads.

Although the set can be viewed as whimsical, it represents the beginning of Lionels final decade of postwar production. Lionel had changed its focus from prototypical freight cars of the 1940's and 1950's to imaginative space and military trains of the 1960's.
